The Scarlet Woods Story
Scarlet Woods is a 140-acre property in the heart of the Southern Forests. It is a mixture of native bushland and pasture, with 4 self-contained chalets, the Big House and the manager's house. All of the buildings are nestled into the side of a hill overlooking the surrounding National Parks, farmlands and State Forests, all perfectly positioned and spaced to ensure seclusion.
Originally part of the old Rooney farmstead used for sheep grazing, it was subdivided, then in 2007, the hill block was purchased by Stewart & Maria Fletcher, Amanda & Gavin Fialkowski. So the development for Scarlet Woods began, and in 2012 they opened their doors to the public and ran the place for a decade.
Jamie and Monica were driving back from the beach one day and upon seeing the 'For Sale' sign, we instantly fell in love with the place, a week later our offer was accepted and we agreed to take over in January 2023. The next month was a whirlwind of activity as we moved from our town house in Manjimup, took over a new property and business. Coincidentally, we had already planned to get married in February, and decided to change the venue to our new home. Scarlet Woods had never hosted a wedding before, so we created a rustic space in the woods for the ceremony inside an old tree stump, and flattened an area on the hill for the reception.
Since then (after a honeymoon!), we have been striving to improve the property with various upgrades. We had the driveway bitumised, installed Wifi, solar panels, and built a wood shed and large rain tank amongst other things. We have also worked hard on giving the chalets a major overhaul. Nearly all the furnishings have been replaced, and we have installed hardwood flooring and timber walls - all from our own trees! We're also working on the Big House, which is already the perfect venue for hosting larger groups of families or friends.
Besides providing our guests with a peaceful escape from city life, our passion is to make this land more productive, functional and beautiful. As everything in a landscape starts with water, we hope to extend our dam and build another one in our back paddock. We have also built a greenhouse so that we can grow a variety of plants from seeds and cuttings.
Our long-term goal is to be able to have enough free time to spend it in our garden and orchard. Hopefully we will end up with a surplus of produce that we can share with our guests.
